Vazhaipoo vadai / Banana Blossom Vadai is unlike any other common South Indian fritters. The uniqueness of this recipe is that the banana blossoms are ground and added to the batter. Removing the Pistils and the Calyx from the banana blossoms will cut the bitterness from it. As i mentioned in my Vazhaipoo kuzhambu post,i made vazhipoo vadai for the first time with the tender banana flowers.
Steps to make Vazhaipoo vadai(banana flower vada):
- Soak Toor dal, chanadal. Blend red chillies and cumin seeds, add Toor dal, chanadal and coursely blend. - - Add rest of the ingredients, add asafoetida, salt, mix it properly.
- Make into flat dumpling and deep fry in medium heat till golden colour and crispy.
It was so nice and crispy. Basically we love anything when deep fried. So when i made this Vazhaipoo vadai. Vazhaipoo vadai/ Banana flower fritter is a deep fried lentil based snack very similar to the the taste of traditional masala vadai. Banana blossom is a healthy addition to our diet and mostly people don't like it due to its taste so adding it such snack recipes will help both kids and adults relish it and get its.
