Iyengar Puliyodharai Recipe also called as Kovil / Temple Puliyodharai, Puli sadam. Tamarind rice using home made Puliyodharai paste - Puliyodharai mix. Its also called as puliyogare in Kannada.
Puliyodharai is one of the most popular of recent trending foods in the world. It is enjoyed by millions every day. It is easy, it is fast, it tastes yummy. Puliyodharai is something that I’ve loved my entire life. They are fine and they look fantastic.
To begin with this particular recipe, we must first prepare a few components. You can cook puliyodharai using 18 ingredients and 7 steps. Here is how you cook it.
The ingredients needed to make Puliyodharai:
- Take 1 lemon size Tamarind
- Get 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- Prepare 1 Red chilli
- Take 1/2 tsp Hing powder
- Make ready 2 tsp grated jaggery
- Take For Grinding
- Prepare 1 tsp oil
- Take 3 tsp coriander seeds
- Make ready 10 nos of red chilli
- Prepare 1 tsp channadal/kadalaparapu
- Get 2 tsp uraddal
- Get 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds/methi
- Take For Tempering
- Take 2 tsp Gineglly oil
- Make ready 1 tsp mustard seeds
- Prepare 2 tsp channadal/kadalaparapu
- Take 2 tsp roasted peanuts
- Get 1 fistful curry leaves
Check for taste, add more if needed. Add little gingely oil, mix gently. The Puliyodharai served in the temples have a unique taste and flavor. This recipe is also commonly being referred as Iyengar Puliyodharai.
Instructions to make Puliyodharai:
- Soak tamarind in water
- Heat the pan and dry fry the urad dal,fenugreek seeds, coriander seeds and curry leaves and keep it aside.
- Pour one teaspoon of oil in a pan and fry the red chillies. Make sure that the red chillies are not getting burnt.
- Take all the fried ingredients to the mixer and once they are cooled down, Grind it to powder(dry).
- Now in the pan pour the gingelly oil and add the mustard seeds. When the mustard starts to sputter add the chanadhal and peanut and fry until they change their color to golden brown. Now add Hing, Curry leaves and fry once. Now add the tamarind extract, turmeric and add the salt. Let the mixture boil till the raw smell of the tamarind goes off (about 10 minutes in a medium flame).
- Now add the grinded powder to the mixture and cook it in a low flame till it's consistency becomes thick. Finally add grated jaggery and then switch off the flame.
- Now mix the cooked rice with above pulikachal mix. - And finally your puliyodharai is ready to eat. It tastes good with fryums and chips.
It tastes divine, may be we are tasting in small quantity that too in the temple. The method of making Temple style puliyodharai is slightly different from our normal Puliyodharai. Kovil Puliyodharai or Tamarind Rice is made at home for several functions, festivals or religious occasions. Some Other Popular Temple Prasadams that you can easily make at home are Lemon Rice, Curd Rice, Pal Payasam, Coconut Rice and Ellu Sadam.. Temple Style Tamarind Rice is a very appetizing and yummy Prasad served in most of the Vishnu temples and Hanuman temples.
