- Make ready 1 cup Toor Dal

- Mix the Dal and Water in a saucepan and allow to steam for 7 whistles in a cooker. This can be combined with prep for the rice also.
- Mix the dal till it is completely fluid. Add more water if needed. Add a spoon of turmeric powder. Bring this mixture to a boil and then cover with a lid.
- In a small pan, heat some oil and add the garlic. Fry till brown.
- Turn off the flame and add the dried chilli (each chilli broken in 2 pieces). Stir for a while to mix the flavours.
- Add the fried mixture to the Dal and cover with lid for 5min to allow the flavours to permeate the dal.
