Foxtail millet is "thinai" in Tamil. Thinai upma is made from thinai rava. You can substitute thinai It can be made for breakfast or dinner. The best combination for this upma is coconut chutney or brinjal.
Instructions to make Foxtail millet Upma:
- Soak barnyard millet for half an hour.
- Add oil in kadhai, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, Curry leaves, Green chillies and stir it. Add all veggies to it and stir for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt to it, then add Foxtail millet to it. Stir it for a minute.
- Add 2.5 cup of water to it and let it cook for 10 minutes. Foxtail millet Upma is ready to serve. Garnish it with finely chopped coriander.
